Description:

You built your business with hard work and persistence.  You don’t pay union rates because your customers would go somewhere else, but you always try to do right by your employees.  What would happen to your business if a union certified your employees?

The deck is stacked against construction employers faced with applications for certification.  The law is designed to make it as simple as possible for unions to get certified.  Because unions are expert at manipulating provincial labour laws, two employees who sign union cards while doing site clean up on a Sunday could be enough to get them certified.

If the union gets certified you may not even get the opportunity to negotiate a contract; in many cases the law requires you to follow existing contracts.  What’s worse, even closing up shop or selling your business may not free your business from the union’s grasp.

At this session we will cover:

  • How unions manipulate the law to take an unfair advantage
  • How unions organize and attract members
  • What happens if you get certified
  • How applications for certification work from start to finish
  • How “independent contractors” and “subcontractors” can get you certified
  • About common mistakes that leave you wide open
  • Preventative strategies

We hope you will join us!
