In Memory of Edwin L. “Ted” Stringer
It is with great sadness that the Partners of Stringer LLP share the news of the death of our founder Edwin L. “Ted” Stringer. Ted was an innovator and a trailblazer within the legal profession. He was a pioneer of the specialist boutique law firm when he founded his practice in the emerging area of management-side labour and employment law.
Under Ted’s leadership, our law firm became one of the first in the country to focus on the exclusive representation of employers in labour and employment matters. This model of the specialist boutique firm has since been adopted across a number of different practice areas.
Ted was a gifted advocate and was widely considered to be the “go to” counsel of choice for Canadian corporations requiring advice and representation for labour relations matters. Ted was admired by colleagues and beloved by his clients for his committed dedication and scrupulous ethics.
It was abundantly clear that Ted was dearly devoted to the love of his life, Elsa, and his children Brad and Diana. He was an avid cyclist who literally traveled the world on a bike. He knew how to live life to the fullest.
Ted was an engaging, optimistic and personable individual who left a lasting impression on everyone who dealt with him. Long after retiring, Ted was invited to mentor the current generation of Partners at Stringer LLP, a role he approached with candor and care. His passion, expertise, advice, energy, humour and enthusiasm were gifts we will treasure. Ted’s influence remains deeply felt at our firm and he is a presence who will be sincerely missed.
